CCTV Surveillance System

The following webpage will outlay data information regarding the Betony NET CCTV Security System.

CCTV Footage Storage

All CCTV footage is stored within a central storage system. The location of this system is redacted to better aid the security and integrity of the system. CCTV Footage can be accessed from the local network, online through a secure internet portal, via a mobile app or locally through the storage device. All of these methods of access are secured by a user authentication process. All users with access to this service must enter a username, password and 6-digit temporary security code (2FA). All footage is also encrypted, until it is exported, which can only be done by an authorised user.

Footage may be viewed by the members of the household, and may be shown on any screen within the household. Members of the household can also view footage on mobile devices at any location, and can download, export and share the footage with anyone that they require. Footage will be handed to public authorities (including the Police) on request of said local authority.

Rear Cameras

All rear cameras are pointed directly at our back garden or our property. There may be certain situations where the camera's field of view will also cover other gardens, or public alleyways. In this case, we will comply with the Data Protection Act and the UK GDPR to ensure that the data we store is secure and inaccessible by unauthorised users.

In the event where a camera can see within someone else's property, the camera will be configured so that the inside of other people's property is redacted and not stored.

Front Cameras

Cameras attached to the front of the property are positioned in such a way that they are pointing at the property, or pointing at a route to the property (such as a pathway, pavement, roads, etc). The cameras may also capture footage of the car park and road that is in front of the property.

In the event where a front camera's field of view covers someone else's property, we will comply with the Data Protection Act and the UK GDPR to ensure that the data we store is secure and inaccessible by unauthorised users.

In the event where a camera can see within someone else's property, the camera will be configured so that the inside of other people's property is redacted and not stored.

Audio Recording

Our cameras may also record audio. In the event where a camera has captured audio from within the boundaries of your property, we will comply with the Data Protection Act and the UK GDPR to ensure that the data we store is secure and inaccessible by unauthorised users. Please note that audio captured from these cameras is only audio that would be audible anyway from household members from within the boundary of our property (so any audio that our cameras pick up would've been heard by us anyway, and theoretically could've been caught by a phone recording or camcorder recording that is in-use within the boundaries of our property).

Night Vision / Infrared Enhancements

Cameras will be able to utilise infrared lighting and camera functions to record footage in the dark. As a result, cameras may be able to show footage of activities, people, objects, etc. that would not be visible to the human eye in the recorded lighting environment.

Illegal Activity

In the event where any illegal activity and/or crime is detected and captured by one of our cameras, and the activity comes to our attention, the footage will be stored and may be shared with the Police.

Unless we are aware (or are made aware) of illegal activity that is captured by one or more of our cameras, footage may be erased before we have time to export it. If we are made aware of illegal activity, but cannot see said activity in the footage, we may delete the footage without warning or delay.

Times of Operation

Cameras will be recording at all times, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. We are able to disable cameras when necessary, but this will not be required. All cameras, along with their storage system, are powered via an uninterruptable power supply, meaning that cameras will stay online and recording throughout powercuts and brownouts for some time. In the event of camera downtime (due to updates or maintenance), schedules will be made in such a way that no more than one camera will be offline at a time, and this information will not be disclosed to anyone outside of the household.

Data Retention

Footage may be deleted without warning, either due to manual deletion, making space for additional storage, or when a certain number of days have expired. The number of days before expiry, along with the amount of storage until old footage gets erased is redacted from public knowledge to aid the security and integrity of the system.

If you have a concern about our footage and wish for it to be deleted, please see below for more information.

Obtaining Your Data

If you believe that our cameras have captured footage in which you are identifiable, and you wish to get a copy of this information, you can make a Subject Access Request. If you wish for us to delete this footage, you can request that also. The UK GDPR states that in order to be able to make a Subject Access Request, you must be identifiable on our footage. If you are not identifiable, your request may be refused.

To make a subject access request, please write a written request, quoting the date and timeframe (from xx:xx to yy:yy) and post it into our property. Please provide your name, address and contact number. We may require photo ID before providing copies of data.

Please note that your Subject Access Request may be refused if:

These are examples of reasons that Subject Access Requests may be refused. It is not complete, and requests may be refused for other reasons.

Once a Subject Access Request is received, we will respond within one month, either requesting further information, proof of identity, or refusing the request.

If you do not provide adequate contact information for us to contact you, we will not be able to answer your request.
